2015 No Mo Fishing Tournament

Weeks of studying maps, days of preparation, two days prefishing, one entry form paid, and many stops at Tim Horton’s for morning coffee culminated with the 2015 No Mo Fishing Tournament in Southeastern Michigan on Sunday May 17, 2015.  What a fun time preparing and fishing in a tournament with anglers of all stripes!

I ended up placing 4th with 49.5″ with three largemouth bass.  It was a close race with less than 2″ separating fourth place from first.

Prefishing helped me establish two primary patterns that lead to, what I would call, a successful day.  Two weeks prior, water warmed to nearly 72 degrees in northern coves and there were a few small males in the shallows targeting bluegill beds.  However, the day before the tournament, after two weeks of warm temperatures, I started south and noticed bigger fish in the flats fanning beds.  With cooler temps leading up to the week of the tournament, I wanted to work my way north hitting deeper water adjacent to coves in hopes of finding some staging females and then have quick access to flats to pick up my limit of males before trying for a kicker.  I caught nearly a dozen males all under 17″ and never did connect with a female.

Thank you to Kayak Fish the Great Lakes for setting up the No Mo Fishing Tournament benefiting the Make-a-Wish Foundation.  It was a fun experience and I look forward to seeing everyone next year!
